The Bucks Tame The Bears

Bootle gain a seventh win in seven games away to Congleton Town with a 1-0 win thanks to a header from Anthony Miley.

Early in the game Bootle attempted to test keeper Dave Parton as a long Matty Fenton throw in landed to the head of a Bootle shirt but it was safely collected by Congleton Town’s number one. A ball floated into the Bootle area from a long ball by the hosts and there was indeed a flick on in an effort to trouble Joe Mason but he seen to it and secured Bootle from any potential danger.

Just before the half an hour mark Ste Edmondson received the ball in space and took a couple of touches before pulling the trigger outside the area but his effort was straight into the hands of Dave Parton without troubling the latter. Just a few minutes before half time, Jay Roberts received the ball down the right flank and managed to get a decent shot away to call Dave Parton into action once again but the effort was saved, the first half resulted goalless.

Congleton Town left back Owen Morris made a good run down the flank and played a ball into Peter Williams who got a shot away but the effort was sprayed just wide of the goal, a fast early start to the second half for The Bears. As the second half went on both sides had no real major chances and neither keeper was properly tested up until in the seventy fourth minute when a Matty Fenton throw in reached Anthony Miley who managed to head in the long throw to give Bootle the lead.

In the later stages of the game Joe Mason punched out a set piece took by Congleton Town and the ball managed to reach Declan Daniels who seemed to be away hunting for a second goal for Bootle but the linesman’s flag went up for offside. Despite several free kicks given to Congleton Town and long balls delivered into Bootle’s area in an attempt for an equaliser, The Bucks hung on and claimed all three points to keep a 100% win record in the Northern Premier League Division One West and reached four consecutive clean sheets in the division.
