Congleton Town’s single goal from a Max McCarthy worldie from the halfway line gave was enough for The Bears to pick up three points.
Same old story for Bootle as they created loads of chances to take the lead in the first half but failed to capitalise on a single one of them. The first was a shot by Joe Woolley after Dior Angus made a great run into the box and the ball fell to Woolley’s weaker foot but the effort was saved by Congleton Town keeper Dave Parton.
A ball from Jay Roberts came across to Courtney Duffus who’s shot from close range was also saved by Dave Parton due to not enough power on the shot from Duffus. Congleton Town seemed to take the lead after seventeen minutes but the flag went up for offside, a sigh of relief for Bootle.
Joe Woolley once again attempted to beat Dave Parton with an effort outside the area but it would also once again be Parton who would come off better from the exchange. Lewis Earl also had a chance after receiving a ball in from Ethan Goldbourne but his effort fell wide.
The best chance of the half fell to Lewis Earl whose header at the near post clipped the woodwork after Ethan Goldbourne whipped in a brilliant ball into the box. The first half would end 0-0 with Bootle creating more chances and holding the larger amount of possession.
The second half seen Congleton Town grow in confidence as Matthew Gillam played a one two with Matthew Liptrott but Tony Thompson intercepted any danger. Ethan Hartshorn tested Tony Thompson with a shot outside the box which was towards Thompson’s positioning but he still had to get his body down low to prevent the shot from going in.
A throw in from Congleton Town found its way into the area which Max McCarthy got his head to but it went way over not troubling Tony Thompson at all. However, Max McCarthy seen Tony Thompson quite afew yards off his line and hit the ball from the halfway line which dipped into the Bootle net to give his side the lead, absolutely magnificent goal.
Bootle won a free kick in a potentially threatening position which was taken by Jay Roberts but Darren Chadwick cleared the ball away. Despite Bootle forcing chances let in the game, it wouldn’t be enough to salvage a point at home as Congleton Town pick up all three points with a 1-0 victory.
