Match Preview: Wythenshawe Town (A)

By Brendan Doyle

Bootle approach their first away game of the back of a 2-1 home defeat to Nantwich Town on the weekend. However, a win in Manchester would be an ideal recovery for The Bucks.

In Alan Morgan’s first full season as Bootle boss, he has so far one win and one loss in competitive games. A 4-0 home win in the FA Cup against 1874 Northwich, but on Saturday his side were faced with a 2-1 home defeat to Nantwich Town as previously mentioned.

Wythenshawe Town are yet to taste a win in their 2025/26 campaign as they have conceded six goals in their first two opening games. A win on their home turf would surely lift the spirits of the squad and the fans of Wythenshawe Town and would hopefully for them, be a start to getting to winning ways.

Club History:

Founded in 1946 as North Withington Amateur Football Club, the team began in local leagues before joining the Manchester League in 1972 and moving to Ericstan Park, named after founders Eric Renard and Stan Hahn.

Success followed, with multiple league titles and five Manchester Challenge Trophy wins between 1976 and 1995. In 2014–15, Wythenshawe Town earned the “Invincibles” tag by winning all 39 matches in a perfect season, and went on to claim the Division One title the following year.

Promoted to the North West Counties League in 2018–19, they rose to the Premier Division after strong COVID-era campaigns. The club reached the FA Vase quarter-finals in 2021–22, and in 2023–24 won promotion to the Northern Premier League West — reaching Step 4 of the National League System for the first time.
