Match Report: Liversedge 0-5 Bootle FC

An Anthony Miley goal and four from Ben Hodkinson gives Bootle our biggest margin of victory in our history of the FA Trophy.

The game got off to a competitive start from both sides with each goalkeeper having to be on their toes, but Bootle opened the scoring as Anthony Miley managed to outmuscle a Liversedge defender and turn his body round to get a shot on the ball and put it past the keeper. Liversedge had a huge chance to equalise as Jay Roberts brought down Finn Donovan in the area and a penalty was awarded, however Joe Mason showed his quality and saved the spot kick.

After a nice bit of play from Liversedge on the left flank, the ball fell to Alfie Dean who took a first time effort only to hit it just inches wide in what would’ve been a huge second chance for Liversedge to equalise just two minutes before the half time whistle. The first half ended 1-0 to Bootle, although the encounter was more entertaining than what the scoreline suggested.

Bootle make an extremely rapid start to the second half as Ben Hodkinson scored two goals in three minutes and even missed a penalty in between, which meant two great left footed finishes from Hodkinson gave Bootle are very well deserved 3-0 lead very early on in the second half. Bootle continued to stay on top as the second half went on and yet again we seen Ben Hodkinson score two goals in a very short space of time which made it 5-0 to Bootle just past the seventieth minute mark, it’s safe to say that Hodkinson brought his golden boots to West Yorkshire.

Bootle had a chance to score a sixth as Ben Hodkinson whipped in a free kick in hope of a Bootle shirt to meet it with a connection but it was only safety caught by the keeper. The match ended 5-0 to Bootle in what was our most clinical performance of the season and the absolute perfect way to respond to our Emirates FA Cup exit on Wednesday night, a very strong win to enter our next fixture away to our local rivals Lower Breck on Bank Holiday Monday.
