Residents of Merseyside will benefit from new investment in local grassroots sports facilities, supported by a six-figure grant from the Premier League, The FA, and the Government’s Football Foundation.

This funding, alongside an additional contribution from Sefton Council, will enable Bootle Football Club to transform its existing hybrid pitch at the Berry Street Garage Stadium into a new 100m x 64m FIFA Quality 3G Football Turf Pitch (FTP).

Bootle Football Club, working in partnership with local clubs and a major education provider (to be announced), will maximise use of the site. The club will also collaborate with the wider community, education providers, and underrepresented groups to improve access to these high-quality facilities.

The upgraded pitch represents a significant improvement on the current hybrid surface, which requires full replacement after five seasons of use.

Joe Doran, Chair, Bootle Football club said:

After the hybrid pitch pilot that ran from 2020 to 2025, we were eager to return to a pitch model focused on community use. With the installation of the 3G FTP, our facilities will be available to partners, residents, educational organisations, and underrepresented groups.

Our goal has always been to be at the centre of the community, and with support from the Football Foundation and Sefton Council, we are now able to make this possible.

Robert Sullivan, Chief Executive of the Football Foundation, said:

“The Football Foundation is working closely with our partners – the Premier League, The FA and Government – to transform the quality of grassroots facilities in England by delivering projects like this across the country.

“Good quality playing facilities have a transformative impact on physical and mental health and play an important role in bringing people together and strengthening local communities.

“This grant award to Bootle Football Club towards developing a FIFA Quality 3G FTP at their stadium is fantastic news for the local community and will help give more people access to a great place to play.”
