FOUR-midable Bootle At It Again
By Brendan Doyle
Bootle score four goals away to Witton Albion to pick up a third consecutive win despite being a man down for most of the duration of the second half.
In the twelfth minute of the game after some fantastic link up play in the middle of the park, a Jay Roberts pass found Ben Hodkinson down the right flank which he then played the ball into Ryan Beigan who met the delivery with a first time effort to stick the ball past Cameron Terry to give Bootle a 1-0 lead, a very impressive goal worked for by the lads. Not too long after taking the lead, Matty Fenton on his return from his absence due to injury on Saturday against Newcastle Town, doubled the goal tally for Bootle as he smashed home a rebounded effort from a corner kick into the back of the Witton Albion net.
Shortly after conceding a second goal, Witton Albion started to find momentum for a brief spell as Joe Edwards and Tom Hoyle made some threatening runs into the area attempting to create chances but nothing to majorly trouble Joe Mason. The best chance for the hosts fell to Geffry Ebhote as he managed to meet the ball from a corner with a headed effort but it only blazed over the crossbar causing Bootle zero trouble.
The second half began horribly for Bootle as Tom Hannigan was given a straight red card after an alleged dangerous challenge, forcing Alan Morgan to make a defensive charge in bringing Ryan Beigan off for Ethan Goldbourne, however, being a man down didn’t seem to bother The Bucks as Ben Hodkinson found himself on the scoresheet yet again after meeting a squared ball in the Witton penalty area to make it 3-0 to Bootle. Witton did manage to pull one back just minutes after conceding a third by way of a James Steele finish despite strong shouts for offside by a lot of Bootle shirts but the linesman’s flag stayed down.
Despite some possible nerves potentially setting in for the Bootle fans, Jack McGowan managed to break into the opposition’s final third and go one on one with Cameron Terry and he struck his effort into the far corner to regain Bootles three goal lead, Bootle really didn’t look like they were a man down at this point. In the later stages of the game, Witton Albion’s Freddy Garbutt managed to poke home a shot after a scramble in the Bootle area to give Witton a glimmer of hope for a dramatic comeback, but it was too little too late as The Bucks made it three league wins out of three league games.
