Match Report: Padiham FC 0-1 Bootle FC

Back To Winning Ways
By Brendan Doyle
The Bucks return to winning ways after a hard fought 1-0 victory away to Padiham on a cold Tuesday night thanks to a single goal from Jack McGowan.
Bootle flew straight out the traps within the first five minutes as Jack Lenehan intercepted a Padiham pass in their own final third and played an excellent ball through to the path of Jack McGowan but McGowan’s effort hit the side netting. Harry Grimshaw parried away a Jay Roberts corner which then fell to Lewis Doyle just inside the area and Doyle tried his luck but his shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out for a goal kick.
Just past the half-hour mark, Bootle finally broke the deadlock as Jack Lenehan effort was blocked by a defender but very fortunately the ball landed in the path of Jack McGowan who then put his effort past Harry Grimshaw. The first half ended in Bootle leading 1-0 and controlling the possession throughout the opening forty five minutes.
In the second half Bootle remained fairly on top and just after five minutes of play a ball found it’s way out to Michael Simpson just outside the area who tried his luck from range but Harry Grimshaw brilliantly saved the shot to keep Padiham at just a goal down in the game. Minutes later after a defensive error from Michael Simpson, Padiham seemed very favourable to equalise but Joe Mason came out to keep Bootle ahead and cleared out any potential danger.
Jack Lenehan met a dinked Ben Hodkinson pass with a header towards goal but Harry Grimshaw was called into action once again to deny Bootle a second goal in the game yet again, great reactions from Padiham’s number one in all fairness. The match resulted in a 1-0 for The Bucks which meant Bootle were back to winning ways after going without a victory in our last two outings prior to Padiham.
