Match Preview: Darlington (H)

By Brendan Doyle

After a 3-2 defeat against Witton Albion in the Isuzu FA Trophy here at The Berry Street Garage Stadium eight days ago, The Bucks play another cup game on our home soil in the Emirates FA Cup against National League North side Darlington in the second qualifying round.

Bootle earned their place in this stage of the competition by defeating Silsden AFC 4-2 in a Tuesday night replay under the floodlights at home in a very clinical performance. It’s safe to say the fans were very pleased with what they seen after a goalless 0-0 draw the previous Saturday in West Yorkshire. After the euphoric feeling of advancing to the next round of the oldest football cup competition in the world, Bootle were hit with a 3-2 home defeat against Witton Albion. Alan Morgan and his squad must recover from the Isuzu FA Trophy exit and prepare to pull off a huge upset against National League North side Darlington.

Ex player Steve Watson’s side Darlington currently sit at 15th place in the Nation League North table, The Quakers looked favourable to seal at win on the weekend but Hereford’s Sam Osbourne snatched an equaliser in the 84th minute to get a 1-1 draw from the game. This will be Darlington’s first game of their FA Cup campaign and will be hoping to travel back from a long distance trip from Liverpool with their name in the next round of the draw.
