An early Connor Millington strike was enough to separate Bootle and Widnes as the Bucks ran out 1-0 winners at the Berry Street Garage Stadium to keep pressure on Runcorn Linnets in the race for the play-offs.

The Bucks started lively, controlling the early possession.

Connor Millington continued his scoring streak putting Bootle in front after smashing under the legs of Widnes keeper Cameron Terry.

A volleyed cross by Ben Hodkinson was met by Henry Ogunby and comfortably saved by Terry.

Sam Turner tested Theo Roberts for the first time in the game, a flying effort parried by the Bucks keeper.

Ogunby latched onto a long ball and his volley was met sweetly by his right foot, but the keeper was down to save again.

The Bucks had two early chances to take the lead in the second half. Firstly, Jack McGowan blazed the ball into the side netting with a powerful effort. Then a deflected effort by Ben Hodkinson was saved by Cameron Terry.

Widnes had their first effort on goal in the second half, Sam Adetiloye heads wide of the Bootle goal after meeting a Sam Turner cross.

Jason Akiotu had a great strike and forced Theo Roberts into a fine save.

Hodkinson tried to curl an effort into the top left corner, but Terry flew to push away with a strong hand.

Substitute Luke Wall troubles the Bucks defence with a teasing deep cross into the area, it was gathered by Stephen Rigby, who diverts the ball wide.
