Bucks sail through the Cup

The first cup test of the season brought us up against Melling Boys. Both teams had some players missing, but we had 12 lads eager to put last weeks league disappointment to bed.

The conditions were challenging to say the least, but we settled into the game well, trying to judge our passing (as we had the strong wind in our favour in the first half). It wasn't long before we took the lead, already after a couple of near misses, Tom was causing havoc down the right and he cut in to score a newt finish. Against the run of play, Melling equalised after the winger latched onto a loose ball to cross, and their midfielder scoring a great goal. The lads didn't let their heads drop, and continued to cause all kinds of trouble, with Connor and Jack working hard with Tom. After the woodwork saved Melling twice from Callum and Tom, we finally took the lead. This opened the floodgates, as the rains came again more goals from Tom, Connor and Jack saw us race to a 6-1 half I ever score. Melling worried hard, but they really struggled to keep up with our boys.

The second half was one of the same, they came got more niggle with Melling players starting to put some naughty challenges in, but we managed to keep our cool and after more efforts which hit the post from Matty and Connor, Tom scored twice more.

The Melling boys couldn't wait for the final whistle, and I think the game finished 8-1, with a great cup win for the boys. It would be great for confidence for the lads to get a cup run this season, and if we play like this there is no reason why not.

MOM. All did well, Josh and back four played great, with Sean setting the example. Midfield battled well in the conditions, but for me Tom was great, running the defenders ragged all day long.

Great result from the lads today, as James says both teams missing players but don’t want to sound harsh but we have played better and could’ve controlled the game more.
The main plus for me was the application and the response from last weeks performance which was mentioned in the pre match team talk and credit to the lads they took it on board. Big question now though can we take into next week.

Goals : Thomas Myers x 6, Jack x 2 & Connor x 2
MOM : Myers takes the award today, unplayable at times, keep it up mate.
