Midweek blues for Buck’s continue.

Midweek, under bright blue skies, Bootle took on the league runners up in a match that was keenly anticipated. Starting his first midweek game, Thomas made a bright start giving the boys an early lead with a belting free kick in to the top right stanchion. Despite the blistering start, the blue boys again looked a little sluggish. Michael linked up well with the new lad moving the ball around at the back making some slick passes but often taking a few too many chances. Freddo worked hard to break everything up and often kept the boys out of trouble. Unfortunately, despite some scything tackles from Mike Dijk at the back the opposition hit back with a slick move and fine finish.

Second quarter. Not much change for the Bucks as their opponents continued to press and harass the defence. The Blue Boy’s defended valiantly with Lucas B taking time out from the game to kick an Italia 90 coca cola ball in to row zed and Darwin showed the form before illness that saw him regularly scoring goals. Alas, after a long, hopeful ball reminiscent of those played by Carragher in his prime, eluded Michael at the back and after a short scramble with Wadey the ball rippled Max’s net. 2:1 but plenty of time to get one back.

Onto the third. Will the Rash continued his form, adding some impetus to the attack producing a MOM display. It was through his hustle and menace that the Buck’s gained a controversial penalty in what looked like a ball to hand incident. It was the kind of decision that only the big clubs get. No need to complain, Freddo stepped up and powered the ball in to the back of the net. Two two and game on.

Final quarter. Squeaky bum time. Still working tirelessly, Bootle had to defend for their life as the oppos number 5 drove from midfield. Too hot to handle, he tested Max to the left and the right only for Harvey to stand up to both with aplomb. Eventually the pressure told as there number 5 finally got the goal he deserved curling a low daisy cutter to the bottom left. Not long left. The Bucks thrust forward but could stem the flow as a gain their number 5 came to the fore with a worldie from the far right in to the top left corner. 4:2, final whistle and a fair result in the end.
