Quarry Men score a hit as the Bootle Boys Miss a beat.

On a cold, windy morning in unfamiliar surroundings Bootle U7 took on an unfamiliar foe in the form of Quarry Green. The game got underway and both teams traded early blows. Euan slotted home from a counter attack, added a second with the assistance of goal line technology and a neatly taken third. Unfortunately, with every goal came an equaliser and with their number eight in fine form the Blue Boys couldn’t move away. Michael continued to jockey at the back trying to find his touch and Lucas S ploughed a tough furrow up front. Despite this, the score stayed close and with a classy free kick Lucas S made it 4:3. The tension was building on the side line and despite Will and Brayshaw pressing their wingers, sending in some fine balls the game continued to be nip and tuck. Cody continued his good form chasing every lost cause and Charlie, in front of Bootle's youngest supporter, continued to look like a future Andrei Kanchelskis. Alas, the the team in hoops pegged it back to 4:4 despite a string of excellent, cat like stops from Max, who had more to do in one match than he has had to deal with in a whole season. Still, it was all level at halftime and the second half would be downhill.

Downhill it soon proved to be as the opposition scored three quick fire goals without reply, tormenting a slightly disjointed Bootle team who were showing endeavour but struggling to find their rhythm. The boys managed, with real grit, to drag themselves back in to the game. Lucas B took a more defensive approach, shutting out the opposition midfield and Euan continued to look menacing on the break. It was from this that Bootle scored the goal of the game as Michael lined the ball to Cody who sent a sweet pass to Wade who took it around the keeper and finished with a no look tap in. Freddo almost added a super volley, getting Kev so excited he began to take his top off. Fortunately, he was wearing three layers and we were saved from any x rated action. With the opposition tiring, the young bucks began to apply some pressure and Will placed a sexy pass to Cody who finished like Kevin Campbell at his best. Alas, it wasn’t to be as the opposition continued to score some cracking shots taking their tally to nine. Playing to the final whistle, Sweeney finished the game with a sweet shot after a long pass through from Max and a distracting run from man of the match Euan. Another lesson learnt in preparation for that all important final.
