Last Gasp Goal Takes Title to the Wire.

After what seemed like an age, or extra time at Anfield, the Bucks were back in action fighting for the title. It was against an older team containing the child of ex-professional footballer Gary Brabin that the boys were pitted against. It started well, Cody barrelled forward, Michael battled at the back and Brayshaw attempted to cover every blade of grass. The boys were working hard but chances for Lucas S were hard to come by as there number 6 continued to chase, tackle and muscle her way around the pitch. Eventually the breakthrough came as Sweeney drove into the box forcing a rebound that Cody slammed into the net from 2 yards. The lead didn’t last long. Following some last ditch defending Allinson tried to sweep the ball away only to knock it against Max and in to the back of the net. 1 – 1 and no less than the opposition deserved.

On to the second quarter, Wade and Hudson entered the fray. There was little change for the boys from the opposition defence and the pattern of the game began to be established. Pressure from Silcocks and counter attacks from Bootle. Charlie and Will continued to break up play and Sweeney continued to toil up front in the lone striker role. Then after a scything challenge from Mike Dijk the opposition took a free kick that Bootle couldn’t clear, leading to their striker levelling the score.
Third and tightest quarter of the game. Allinson left the field replaced by Wade and Will made way for Brayshaw. The Bucks began to get more of a foothold in the game, showing a bit more bite in defence and a no one shall pass attitude. Charlie took no prisoners in defence reading plays and picking off passes. Cody continued his relentless form, maintaining his 7/10 reliability and Hudson’s heat map looked like a teenage acne ridden face. However it was Max who made his MOM save and kept the boys in the title race, pushing a fierce shot on to the bar.

Still all to play for in the last quarter. Michael and Brayshaw back on the field. Lucas S continued to pose a threat up front and Wade refused to give up on the wing. The boys began to take control as the opposition tired. Michael grew in to the game, moving the ball from left to right. Sweeney developed in confidence driving at the box and peppering the goal. And so the breakthrough came from the best passing move of the game. Michael to Charlie who slotted the ball across the box to Sweeney who turned instinctively megsing the keeper and securing the vital point to keep the title race alive.
