SWEEENEY BAGS ANOTHER HAT-TRICK !!!

On a perfect day for football, our boys took on an undefeated Greenloon team looking to cement their place at the top of the table. Coming off the back of a 9 nil victory, yet finding it hard to hit their form, Bootle put together some great passes but struggled to hit that killer pass. Finally, like Teddy Sheringham in his prime, Wade slotted home after a precise ball through from Lucas S who had dropped into midfield. Que opening of the flood gates, surely? Surprisingly, this was not the case as Greenloons slotted home a well-placed equaliser to bring them back in contention. Despite making himself big, there was nothing that Max could do.

So on to the second quarter and with the introduction of Will, Euan and Lucas B the energy level rose a notch. Will took on the role of enforcer, racing from box to box looking for anything and everything to tackle. Lucas B continued his form on the right wing, showing some deft touches and turns, sending the Greenloon defenders sprawling. However, it was Euan who looked the most dangerous, showing a turn of pace second to none. Still it remained level and the tension continued.

Third quarter. This is where all of that ground work began to pay off. Mike Dike continued to manage the game from the back, marshalling his troops in front of him. Lucas S, Charlie and Lucas B began to take charge of the final third and BOOM!!!!! Goal, Lucas S, swivel, turn and first time shot to make it 2:1. Nothing short of what the boys deserved. He wasn’t finished, after an excellent one two between Michael and Charlie, Lucas S was sent down the touchline cutting in taking one touch and burying a shot past the sprawling keeper. Three one. A score line more reflective of the game.

Into the fourth, Mike Dike left the fray injured (needing a poo), and on came Cody, Euan and Will. Now in total charge the boys released the handbreak. Straight away Cody took on the mantel of a young Alan Stubbs with aplomb, taking no chances while threading through some super balls. Euan continued his threat drifting past defenders as if they didn’t exist and with Will and Lucas B harassing the opposition it was only a matter of time before a fourth. Who did it come from? Who do you think? Feed the Sweeney and he will score. Four one. Final whistle and job done!
