The Bucks return to The Berry Street Garage Stadium this Wednesday night for a high-stakes league clash under the lights. It is a quick turnaround for Bootle following Sunday’s dramatic penalty shootout victory against Hesketh Colts. While the 1-1 draw at full-time felt like a missed opportunity given the Bucks' early dominance, the squad showed immense character to hold their nerve.
Caitlyn Rogers continued her fine form on Sunday, finding the net 20 minutes in after a period of intense pressure. Despite a lengthy second-half delay due to an injury and a late Hesketh equalizer, Bootle’s clinical 5-3 victory in the shootout secured a vital extra point and kept the momentum swinging in the right direction.
Wednesday’s visitors arrive at Vesty Road buoyed by a massive upset. Last weekend, Sefton Park Rangers stunned fourth-placed MSB Woolton Reserves, the side that recently defeated Bootle with a 3-2 victory.
With Fatu Konteh coming off a brace and D'Arcy-Lee Dawson also finding the scoresheet, Sefton have proven they can go toe-to-toe with the league’s top sides. They will be hungry to carry that giant-killing energy into tomorrow’s fixture.
This marks the third meeting between the two sides this season. Fans will fondly remember the high-scoring thriller back in March, where Bootle emerged 5-3 victors in the LWYFL Open Age Cup.
In that encounter, Poppie O’Neill stole the show with a superb hat-trick, while Caitlyn Rogers bagged a brace. Keeper Izzy Cartwright even got in on the action with a direct assist. However, Sefton’s late three-goal surge in that game serves as a reminder that they are never truly out of a contest.
