After just 15 minutes into the game, Bootle keeper Owen Mooney received a straight red card for an alleged handball outside of the area, with defender Leon Legge taking up the number one position for the remainder of the game. Throughout the first half neither keeper was seriously tested as the game was mostly contested in the middle of the pitch. The unexpected red card for the Bootle keeper may have impacted the dynamics of the game.

In the second half of the game Bootle made Cables keeper Mitchell Allan more busy and threatened towards his goal, including a dangerous header from Tom Moore which would eventually be cleared by the defence. Ben Hodkinson would go onto have three clear cut chances against Allan, but it would be The Cables keeper who came out on top in each encounter. Leon Legge stepped up between the sticks also as he made a save from Tony Donaldson and getting the ball out of harms way. The match ended 0-0 with nothing much separating the two sides.

After suffering a 2-0 defeat to local rivals City of Liverpool on Boxing Day, Bootle came short in another Merseyside derby away on the first fixture of 2024. After a goalless first half with both sides missing their chances to go ahead in the game.

Just over 5 minutes into the second half it was Anthony Donaldson who would finally brake the deadlock in the game after receiving a squared pass from John Murphy, putting The Cables in front in the Merseyside derby. With Bootle desperately to claw back into the game, the hosts would double their lead thanks to a goal from the provider for the first goal John Murphy. Tony Thompson denied Prescot Cables a third goal and also Anthony Donaldson a second with a magnificent save, but the score finished 2-0 to Prescot Cables.

The first half of a Liverpool Senior Cup quarter final fixture between the two Merseyside clubs was an even 45 minutes with both sides having their own attempts on goal but none would prevail to open up the scoring as the half ended 0-0.

The second half wasn’t too different up until the 73rd minute when Francis Smith finally broke the deadlock. The Bucks tried to snatch an equaliser in the last 20 minutes of the game but unfortunately for Mick McGraa’s squad the match would finish 1-0 to Prescot Cables which seen them advance to the semi finals of the Liverpool Senior Cup.
