Leek were forced to weather the storm straight away as the hosts came out all guns blazing and looked for the opening from the first whistle.
Chances came and went for the hosts as more signs of a fast start were evident, and the attacking prowess caused Town vast amount of problems.
Scott Sephton almost capped his first Bootle goal via a free header in the box, when a Ben Hodkinson was launched into the outskirts of the six-yard area. Lewis Earl was able to nod the ball across to Sephton who couldn’t direct his header on target.
Tom Peterson had an effort that drifted just off target but minutes later he became the first goal scorer of the match, in comical fashion.
A lofted ball in the air was dropped by Matt Corran in the Leek net and it seemingly took a touch of Peterson en route to creeping over the line.
HT: Bootle 1-0 Leek Town
It was two for the Bucks just before the hour mark as Peterson was on hand to fire home a rebound.
Hodkinson chopped inside and his effort looked destined for the corner before Corran tipped away, only to the advancing Tom Peterson who fired home.
Bootle continued to thrive going forward and looked the more likely to kill the game off for good, but the killer instinct wasn’t there.
Leek attacked minimally throughout the contest but with some dangerous balls in the latter stages, they could have grabbed a lifeline but the Bucks firmed everything.
