Bootle were warned early on in the game about their sloppy passages of play as Consett had the ball in the back of the net, but to the relief of most, the linesman’s flag was raised to prevent the premature celebrations.

The hosts recovered well and began to fire warning shots on Ciaran Ure’s abode, but none were greatly testing the young shot stopper.

The deadlock was broken ten minutes before the break and new signing Bailey Thompson was off the mark on his debut for his new side.

A delicate ball across the face found the new man, who signed from Hyde United through the week, and he was able to squeeze the ball through Ure’s legs and fire it home to hand Bootle the lead.

The second half continued to swing in Bootle’s favour, but against the run of play, Consett drew level.

Daniel Capewell found an inch of space in the area and he nodded home forcefully past Sam Ashton to bring the North East outfit back on terms.

Being tied at 1-1 lasted only three minutes as Owen Robinson dispatched a penalty into the bottom left corner out of the reach of Ciaran Ure following the attacker being body checked in the area.

Two was soon three as another debutant found the net for the Bucks. Sam Burns, introduced from the bench, was on the pitch for only three minutes before he was able to slide onto a ball into the area and squeeze a ball under Ure’s body.

More misery was compiled on the visitors as Bootle hit them for four with still twenty minutes to spare. A lovely cross-drawn pass by Arthur Lomax picked out the run of Ethen Vaughan who deliciously rolled the ball beyond Ure with the inside of his foot, with it feeling like an eternity before the ball reached the net.

Poor defending by the hosts allowed a pathway back for Consett, as Daniel Capewell netted his and the visitors’ second with a calm finish in the area.

Ure was tested by Craig Carney and Sam Burns in quick succession, but he wasn’t able to stop Andy Scarisbrick chalking up a fifth goal as his rasper of an effort clipped the underside or the bar before bouncing over the line and in.

The scoring was rounded off with the last kick of the tie, and Scarisbrick slotted into an unguarded net to hand Bootle a convincing win.

FT: Bootle 6-2 Consett
