Dismal Bucks succumb to lowly Heys

With one step in the pyramid separating the two sides, Prestwich Heys dismantled Northern Premier League West outfit Bootle 3-1 to send the Bucks crashing out the FA Cup for another year.

Bootle started brightly and almost netted when John Hunt’s strike was valiantly blocked off the line by Darcy O’Connor for the hosts.

The Bucks kept a rhythm of pressure on the Prestwich abode but the three-back system seemed to expose the visitors a little and in one instant, it proved costly for Bootle as Heys struck first blood.

Tyler James received the ball through after a forward pass coming from a Bootle attack, and the Heys attacker spotted the on-rushed Owen Mooney and he managed to slot it calmly past the Bootle keeper.

Neither team could stamp their authority on the game from then despite the hosts going in front, and the only efforts that seemed to threaten the goal were from range.

If Bootle weren’t too score, their best bet was to hold onto a one-goal advantage going into the break, but deep into the end of the first half, Prestwich inflicted further damage.

A mistimed header proved dear as Jack Coop raced through on goal, he then slipped in Matt Davies who dragged his effort far into the bottom corner to double Heys’ lead.

HT: Prestwich Heys 2-0 Bootle

Bootle were the masters of their own downfall once again as Prestwich were clinical in front of goal once more, adding a third.

Coop and James linked linked up again for the hosts, with the first setting up the latter just outside the area and a powerful shot flew at Owen Mooney, who let it spill through his grasps.

A mere consultation was struck with twenty minutes remaining as substitute Andy Kanga spotted a loose ball in the area and he struck at goal, only for it to nip off Ben Hodkinson and fly in, wrong footing Jordan Hadlow and creating a pathway for Bootle to get back into the game.

Unfortunately, the Bucks never built on that and in truth, Heys were unlucky not to net a fourth late on as Tyler James, searching for a hat-trick, fired wide deep into added time.

FT: Prestwich Heys 3-1 Bootle
